DNS is short for Domain Name Server. It provides the human-readable format for each domain you visit on the Internet. It is the naming database for humans when interacting with any web resource.

Any resource on the Internet can only communicate through IP addresses, not domain names. For instance, whenever a user types in https://google.com in the URL bar, Google's domain name is translated to one of Google's IP addresses in the background through a DNS server allowing the communication between the client; you, and the web server; Google web server.

Before the client's request is sent to Google, it is sent to the DNS server for translation. Once the IP of Google is obtained, the communication can go through. Otherwise, each request will be dropped and fail. DNS is your phonebook to any web resource; you need the contact information to reach your destined contact.

DNS servers can be hosted locally on your premise or public DNS servers like Google or CloudFlare.

Once Proxidize is installed, it will set your proxies to use Google's Public DNS server, which has the IP 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. Google's public DNS speeds up your browsing experience, gets the results you expect without redirection, and is allowed on all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) access and firewall rules.

If you have a DNS server hosted locally or wish to use any other DNS server, setting custom DNS is available in all Proxidize plans and can be set directly from your Proxidize dashboard.

Setting the server will reconfigure your proxies to use the newly set DNS server. Restoring DNS to default will force all your proxies to use Google's public DNS 8.8.8.8.
