# UDP on Mobile Proxies

Turn on UDP for Mobile Per Proxy and Mobile Per GB: how it works over SOCKS5, which locations stay available, and what happens to saved locations.

Mobile Per Proxy and Mobile Per GB can carry UDP traffic as well as TCP.

You turn it on with the **UDP** switch on each product page.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Residential Per GB does not support UDP.
{% endhint %}

***

## How UDP works

UDP runs over **SOCKS5** only, using its UDP ASSOCIATE command, and HTTP proxies do not carry it.

UDP destinations are limited to ports **80** and **443**, the same as all other traffic.

{% hint style="success" %}
HTTP keeps working while UDP is on.
{% endhint %}

## Turn UDP on

The switch is set separately for each product.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Mobile Per Proxy" %}
{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Find the switch

Open **Mobile Per Proxy** and find the **UDP** switch at the top right of the page, next to **Reset password**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Confirm

Turn the switch on, then confirm with **Enable UDP** in the **Enable UDP?** dialog.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

The setting covers every proxy on the plan.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Mobile Per GB" %}
{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Find the switch

Open **Mobile Per GB** and find the **UDP** switch in the header, between your data balance and **Set alert**.

<figure><img src="https://3163533074-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FiAQa47xivOtQQ7mQZOnQ%2Fuploads%2Fx4Vo8ftKbfPWHSEHH1fY%2F06-per-gb-header-udp.png?alt=media&#x26;token=ab9ec2b8-15be-4507-92eb-5793ae255d98" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Confirm

Turn the switch on, then confirm with **Enable UDP** in the **Enable UDP?** dialog.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Use SOCKS5

Set the access point's **Type** to **SOCKS5 Proxy** so your traffic can use UDP.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

The setting covers every access point on the plan.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## What changes when UDP is on

Your traffic routes through the locations and ISPs that support UDP, and the location and ISP lists show those options.

{% hint style="info" %}
For the best experience with UDP on, choose a state or **Fastest** rather than a single city or ISP.
{% endhint %}

### Saved locations without UDP support

If a saved location does not support UDP, it stays selected and is marked, so you can choose what to do with it.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Mobile Per Proxy" %}
The proxy shows a red **!** icon in its **LOCATION** dropdown with the note *This location is unavailable*, and it follows its **FALLBACK** setting.

<figure><img src="https://3163533074-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FiAQa47xivOtQQ7mQZOnQ%2Fuploads%2FeKfe5OMMMBDTkBlKPS4z%2F03-per-proxy-udp-unavailable-location.png?alt=media&#x26;token=c6ae3a9e-2718-41b0-9cf8-ad52e440daf5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Switch to fastest** keeps the proxy connecting through another available proxy, and clears your location and ISP selections.
* **Refuse connections** keeps your selections and holds the proxy until a matching location is available, so choose another location if you need the proxy working now.
  {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Mobile Per GB" %}
Choose another available location for the access point, or reset it.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## Turn UDP off

Turning UDP off opens **Disable UDP?**, and you confirm with **Disable UDP**.

<figure><img src="https://3163533074-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FiAQa47xivOtQQ7mQZOnQ%2Fuploads%2FrRXW8vcxDSYj4kBOGT0b%2F04b-disable-udp-dialog.png?alt=media&#x26;token=4e075cd5-abae-42dc-96b5-f8854bb48613" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Every location becomes available again.

{% hint style="info" %}
Switching UDP on or off can give your proxies new IPs, so the best time to switch is between jobs.
{% endhint %}

## Quick FAQ

<details>

<summary>Why are some locations marked after I turned on UDP?</summary>

With UDP on, your proxies use the locations that support it. Pick one of those locations, or turn UDP off to use every location again.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is UDP available on Residential Per GB?</summary>

No. The **UDP** switch is on Mobile Per Proxy and Mobile Per GB only.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Which proxy strings do I use for UDP?</summary>

Your SOCKS5 proxy strings, with a tool that supports UDP over SOCKS5. UDP travels over SOCKS5 rather than HTTP.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.proxidize.com/plans-and-features/udp-on-mobile-proxies.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
