Why do I need to connect my setup to a router?

It’s not possible to connect to the proxy through the mobile network as all the ports would be closed since it’s a CGNAT IP.

The proxy would consume twice the amount of data since both incoming and outgoing connections would pass through the SIM card connection.
We do plan to support this feature where you do not need a router for the Business & Enterprise plans.

Here’s a full explanation of why it would consume twice the data:

When sending a packet from a device connected to a Proxidize proxy, it has a path like this:

Device > Router > Proxidize Server > USB modem > Web

And the response will come:
Web > USB modem > Proxidize Server > Router > To your device.

This way, 2 packets pass through the router, and 2 packets pass through the USB modem. In both cases, it’s the original packet and the response.

If we didn’t have the router, this is how it would look:
Device > USB modem > Proxidize Server > USB modem > Web

And the response would be:
Web > USB modem > Proxidize Server > USB modem > To your device

This way, the same packet passes 4 times through the USB modem, consuming twice the amount of data.
